Shire Corporation

December 10, 2015

The homework that the training program asked me to do before my interview asks me to look at the website of one of several "STEM organizations in the Massachusetts area that focus on biotechnology," to describe the organization's mission statement or goal, and to talk about "one thing about this organization that is interesting to you and why."

The homework listed these businesses:

Genzyme
Biogen
Millennium
Immunogen
Pfizer
Shire

I chose the one that the conglomerate would be least able to interpret as having a code value.

When I did a Google search on a computer for "shire," this is what the search result for Shire's website was like:

I then went to the section that says "Who We Are."  This is a picture of the first page of that section:

I have to think of a way to do the homework without talking about how Shire is promoting sexual abuse.  If people from the program are reading my blogs, what are they going to do?

I'm sorry, lines or no lines in that picture at the Shire website, that woman is mouth-kissing a young child, and each paragraph has the word "innovative" or "innovation."

Science is not supposed to be about thinking of ways to hurt people.
