The movie "Avatar" is on television at the shelter.

It's a nice fantasy.  Like "Titanic," it's not the way that things happen in real life.

In real life, the Roses have to marry the Cals, live in degrading poverty tormented by society or kill themselves.  The trees all get torn down and the native people get turned into alcoholic welfare recipients, filling the for-profit jails.  The bad guys are revered and rarely punished and the good guys are persecuted.

I guess that's why people go to the movies.  If they wanted to think about real life for those few hours, they wouldn't pay more than an hour's wage to do it: they can do that all the time for free.
