What do you do when you have all the power?

June 25, 2016

I guess it's undeniable that human beings are the most destructive species and cause more suffering than any other.

We cause suffering to animals.  We cause suffering to humans.  We live in a hierarchy to everything, including each other.

When you are able to choose something that reduces suffering over something that doesn't, do you?  It seems like that question ought to replace the question of mere survival, at least for people who are doing all right in industrialized countries.

Maybe the mechanization of war in the last century kept people from progressing mentally and socially toward an ideal of personal and social responsibility and interdependence.  It could be that the world has continued to reel from those tragedies and what they mean; we do not want to know what we are, but what we don't know about ourselves will always be dangerous.  You are always at risk of being controlled by what you don't know about yourself.
