Why didn't Ms. Erdely realize that not registering parties is a tactic of fraternities who want to deny that the parties happened if they are later scrutinized for rape or hazing?

That's a quote from the Rolling Stone article.

Tsk, tsk, Ms. Erdely.  Why did you lose without a fight?

Tsk, tsk, Rolling Stone.  Why didn't you support your reporter?

Did you think that nobody would attack you for the article?  If the University of Virginia doesn't care that female students get raped and killed, did you think the school would be too scrupulous to call you liars and support lawsuits against you?  Did you think that Phi Kappa Psi would issue a public apology and swear to mend its ways?

The Greek system has some of the smartest, and many of the wealthiest and most powerful people, in the United States.  The older men in that system know everything about how the country does things; they know the media, they know the legal system, they own corporations, they own medical practices, they own everything.  They have adapted the fraternities to evade prosecution.

They're the ones who write the procedures.  They're the ones who take the panicked phone calls from young men who have surreptitiously drugged and raped women or beaten and forcibly inebriated pledges who don't wake up.
