I bled "more than an average amount" during the pelvic exam and Pap smear that I had today.

October 21, 2016

When I felt the blood leave my body, I asked the doctor if it was blood and she said that it was.  When the exam was over, the swab that she had used was soaked with blood.  There was blood on the paper sheet that was wrapped around my waist and blood on the exam chair's paper sheet.

I have never bled like that before from a pelvic exam or a Pap smear.  I'm not menstruating.  The quotes in the title of this page are around what the doctor answered when I asked her if it was more than a normal amount of blood.

There are several causes of an atypical amount of bleeding from a Pap smear, and not all of them are illnesses. Unfortunately, one of the things that can cause it is cervical cancer.

I don't have a diagnosis yet, but I get to think about that until I do.

There was a Wet Floor sign at the end of the hallway when I left the doctor's office today.  It doesn't seem as if anyone has told all the maintenance people at Boston Medical Center that it's inappropriate to stalk patients and to sexually harass them, and that it's particularly inappropriate to stalk and sexually harass women who have appointments at OB/GYN.
