That doesn't mean that what's happening to me isn't horrible, or that other people have the right to ridicule me.
I know that the world's misogyny dictates that women accept being targeted for degrading sexual jokes, while also dictating that women should never think of anything funny that doesn't put them in a subordinate position to men or to misogynist women.
Misogyny dictates that I'm never supposed to define my situation, no matter what the situation is. I am expected to accept other people's definitions of me and my life.
Humor, especially intelligent humor, demands the ability to have some objectivity; to be funny, you have to have enough objectivity to say something about a situation other than to be totally overwhelmed by it. Humor can't be produced by an object; it has to be produced by a person.
