Who is training reporters not to read as many original documents as possible, but rather to rely almost entirely on what other reporters have already said or written?

Are the people who are reporting about the Rolling Stone lawsuit gossips or journalists?

You don't have to be a genius to report as accurately as you possibly can about something.  You do have to want to know what happened, and to be willing to throw out all of your own theories, and to question the theories of experts and other authorities, if the facts and your most informed, objective analysis of those facts contradict all of those theories.
