The article was written by a man, and I doubt that he's harassed and threatened by online stalkers the way that female journalists who report about male sports are.
No, the team shouldn't have taken or published the picture. However, the League could have insisted that the picture be erased from social media, given the team a warning, and insisted that the team publish the warning and a team apology, rather than removing the team from the contest.
Yahoo has had that article as the first article at its website ALL DAY.
What about this story? Why is it never at the first page of the website?
That's the address for the first page of Yahoo results for "gymnastics sexual abuse."
It is a horrible scandal of systemic failure to prevent sexual abuse of female athletes, and I don't think that most of the public has even heard about it.
