Belief systems, legal systems, social systems, science, academia; these systems and many people who were part of them supported slavery. Slavery didn't continue to happen in the United States just because plantation owners and their white employees wanted it to happen; it was the power establishment throughout the country that supported it. Slaveowners had powers that were written as laws, about what they could do and how they could treat their slaves.
To treat someone that way, you have to start from the idea that the person is inferior to you. The beliefs lead to the actions, and to lack of legal or social consequences for the abusers.
The conglomerate's jokes about me and about women have never angered me because of their content; I know that they're all vulgar and ignorant or vulgar and evil, and don't care about the trivializing opinion expressed by them. It's what the jokes indicate about the systems that produce them that has caused me to say "These are not just jokes; they are attacks on women's gains in society."
What really is my imprisonment by the conglomerate was started by jokes.
