Haven Monahan was a persona that Jackie had created to try to get Ryan to like her, and it seems that it worked, until after she was raped.
After Jackie had created the Haven Monahan persona, she got asked to dinner by "Drew," a lifeguard whom she had met at her student employment. She told her then-friends that Haven Monahan had asked her out, maybe because she thought that Drew was cute and he seemed nice, and she liked him enough that she wasn't going to tell her friends about him until she knew if she liked Drew or Ryan better and until she knew if Drew or Ryan liked her better. Ryan has since made it clear during his many media interviews that Jackie had had to try to get Ryan to like her. By September 28, 2012, Jackie and Ryan hadn't yet had their date for Ryan's birthday for which Jackie had bought all the tickets, so why shouldn't she have wanted to know if Drew, who seemed to like her without her having to try, might be someone she could have for a boyfriend?
Then, Drew got her gang-raped.
Unfortunately, that left Jackie in the difficult situation of not knowing how to tell her friends that Haven Monahan was not a real person, which her friends already knew, but also having already told them that Haven Monahan had taken her out and not having told her friends anything about Drew. She didn't know what to do.
However, it seems that Jackie stopped the Haven Monahan persona by October 7, 2012.
The name that Jackie told to Sabrina Erdely in December of 2014 wasn't Haven Monahan; it seems to be the name of someone whom Ms. Erdely, the Charlottesville police and possibly even Mr. Shapiro were all able to identify as being a real person.
Those are pictures of part of the Charlottesville Police Department's March 23, 2015 statement.
From the transcripts of the September 28, 2012 texts between Jackie and Ryan, we already know that the only people who really knew by 2014 when it was that Jackie got assaulted in 2012 were Ryan and the brothers at Phi Kappa Psi, since those brothers were so diligent about providing a photo to the police, time-stamped 11:33 p.m. and September 28, 2012, months before the transcripts that show the text conversation between Jackie and Ryan that happened after her assault and almost exactly at that time were disclosed to the public.
It seems to me Ryan selectively disclosed texts and emails to Mr. Shapiro, according to what Ryan wanted Mr. Shapiro to know, and that Mr. Shapiro was biased and also frequently and deliberately misleading all the way through his reporting about the Rolling Stone article.
It seems to me that Haven Monahan is irrelevant to whether or not Jackie was sexually assaulted. It also seems to me that Jackie's former friends, the Charlottesville Police Department, Mr. Shapiro and Dean Eramo's lawyers have all tried to exploit the Haven Monahan story told by Jackie's former friends to obfuscate what really happened.
This page is my interpretation of the available facts.
Was Haven Monahan a good idea that Jackie had? It doesn't seem like it. Teenagers; what can you do?
