I have hated it since the first second that I heard it.
No, Ms. Bareilles, "everybody" has not "been there," in terms of what's happening to me. Nothing like what's happening to me has ever happened to anyone.
I'm tired of privileged people trying to claim underdog status with me. I don't need pity, and the purported empathy of those people toward me seems to me to be more of their self-absorption posing as absolution of the marginal amounts of guilt that they perhaps feel every once in a while.
I'm not trying to be accepted by anyone who has abused me; I want the abuse to stop so that my life stops being ruined by what's being said about me and done to me.
It's unfortunate for Ms. Bareilles that a television show decided to play "Brave" this morning; overall, she's not as bad as a lot of people who are part of the entertainment industry, which isn't saying much.
