This person did not need to worry that anyone would think that this was my car. Whoever it is did not need to proclaim his or her lack of support for me as a native Vermonter. I have never had a car; nobody in Vermont pays enough for a person with an average job to have a car, even though it's almost impossible to work if you don't have a car because there's almost no public transportation. I walked or rode a bike a few miles to work and back for more than one winter, despite what everyone wants to think is my history of laziness and welfare dependency.
