"I'd like to do the rest of the work for the class without having to return to the classroom."

July 12, 2017

The title of this page is a quote from an email that I sent to the Dean of Students on June 25, 2017.

The email starts by saying, in response to the Dean's emailed requests to meet with me,  "I'd rather not schedule a meeting at your office until I know why I'll be there.  If I'll be there to be accused of being the problem in my French class, then I'd rather not schedule the meeting at all."

I said that because when I reported being harassed and stalked by a student from my Chinese class in the Spring 2016 Semester, I was called by the Dean's office and asked to schedule a meeting with the Dean.  As soon as the meeting was scheduled, I received an email from the Dean's office, charging me with harassment and disruption and informing me that the meeting would be a discussion of those charges.  This all happened on the same day, May 9, 2016; I was called, the meeting was scheduled for that day, and then I was sent the email charging me, giving me a few hours to prepare for the meeting that I thought was scheduled to discuss my being the target of harassment and that was actually scheduled to accuse me of being the perpetrator.

This is the email that the Director of Student Services sent me on May 9, 2016, at 1:06 p.m.  He attended the meeting with the Dean of Students that day at 4:00 p.m.:

You are scheduled to meet with Dr. Julie Elkins, Dean of Students, and Kevin J. Stevens, Director of Student Services, on Monday, May 9th at 4:00p.m. in Room B-309. You will receive a copy of the written report when we meet and you will have the opportunity to respond to the allegations as per the Code of Conduct Disciplinary Process. The following outcomes are possible:

1.    You could be found not responsible for all charges and the case would be dismissed.
2.    If you are found responsible for any of the charges, there are the three procedural options for resolution:
a.    Verbal or Written Warnings- for low-level offenses.
b.    Administrative Disposition- a mutually agreed upon disciplinary remedy.
c.    Judicial Board Hearing. To be scheduled for a future date.

If you fail to appear for our meeting, I will adjudicate the alleged violations without you being present. If you have any questions about our meeting, please contact the Dean of Students’ Office at 617-228-2408.
