Why are movie stars pardoned for everything, while people who care about democracy are treated like criminals?

I liked "Catch Me If You Can" when it was in the theater years ago, but I have since gotten to the conclusion that the entertainment industry does so many movies and television shows about crime because it likes crime and it likes criminals.

That's a clip from "Catch Me If You Can," about an actual thief who was able to work off his debt to society.

Edward Snowden had no personally selfish motives for what he did; he has no debt to society to begin with.  If the U.S. Government doesn't want to recognize that at this time, perhaps it could give him the chance to work to save lives in a safer country than the one which he is inhabiting.
