That's not a bad thing to say to try to prevent a trauma-inducing event, is it?
Also, men and women need to remember that men are usually bigger than women and that their physical size can be intimidating without them saying or even doing anything threatening. A man who gets a wrong idea will usually be able to hurt a woman more than a woman who has a wrong idea will be able to hurt a man. It's not chauvinist or sexist to remember that.
Equality is not about pretending that reality isn't reality.
