What I would also say if I were a lawyer and Rolling Stone were my client is "STOP ARGUING WITH A CANCER SURVIVOR BEFORE YOU MAKE THE WORLD HATE YOU."

I would say "Stop apologizing.  Stop arguing.  Smile, sign the check for what the judge and jury tell you to pay, and wish her Happy Holidays."
