First, I heard the growl-coughing. Then I heard a "HUH-uh," which is another sound that people make when they want to harass me. Then, I heard that sound again and I finally looked up, to see an older man walking quickly past me, eyes bulging with that "I'm not looking at someone whom I hate while I am totally focussed on that person" look.
When he'd walked past me, he stopped to talk to another older man who seemed to be a friend of his; they exchanged pleasantries, during which his behavior was civilized and appropriate.
Since then, I have heard two more "HUH-uhs," and I don't know if they're from him or from yet another man in this establishment, where I am trying to do my homework.
I don't think that whoever it is will stop for as long as he's here. Since I published this page a few minutes ago, there have been several more harassing sounds, loud enough to be heard from several yards away.
I don't know anyone in this place; whoever it is hates me, viciously hates me, and it's someone whom I have never met.
