This is, and always was, a man's world. There are a lot of people who thrive off that status quo, and who are willing to attack people who really challenge that status quo on all fronts, so that they can maintain their own power within the system the way that it is and for their own interests.
I'm not a passive female, I'm not a lesbian, and I have no doubts at all about my intrinsic equality to men. My knowledge of my equality is neither theoretical nor rhetorical. Therefore, I am worse than worthless as a human being both to chauvinist, heterosexual men and corrupt, gay men.
