The pharmaceutical industry has exploited the government for millions of dollars.
There's no toddler who needs ADHD medication, and there's no grade school child or teenager who should be at the nurse's office for 5 psychiatric medications every day.
Unfortunately, everyone who's taking all of those medications at the government's expense has to be weaned from them, especially if they have taken them all of their lives; that takes months or a couple of years. Also unfortunately, there are some poor people who don't have the money to take care of their children and so they have them diagnosed to be eligible for disability payments.
I wrote a page about it last year, at this blog. I included data reported by the government about how much money was being spent.
There's no substitute for parenting and for schools that think children should be children and not robots.
