I think that Mr. Assad should resign.

April 23, 2017

I don't think that the United States should have to provide homes for the people displaced by Mr. Assad's atrocities, while American and other corporations are scheming about how to do business with Iran.  We can't ethically refuse to do that if Mr. Assad is not removed from power, but he should resign.

How and why is the tragedy of these refugees being treated as if it somehow has no cause, as if it's an act of G-d and can't be confronted?

Someone has to say "You can't torture and kill your people and then threaten us for telling you to stop," and then prove that he can't and that nobody can.

Does the Russian government want war?  Do you really think so, or is that what the Russian government wants everyone to think?

I suppose that when you call a bluff, you have to be ready to pay if you're wrong.  We'll be paying anyway; Russia took Crimea, and everyone objected, and now Crimea is forgotten.  Russia is planning to control the Middle East, and when it does, what do you think the stakes of war will be then?

What's Russia going to do if told unequivocally that Mr. Assad has to resign?  Use nuclear weapons against Europe?  Blow up thousands of years of culture and ruin its own economic interests?  Be The Country that started a nuclear World War over a murdering dictator?

What about a war between the United States and Russia in Syria?  Is that what the Russian government wants?  Is that what the Russian people want?  They want Russian lives and billions of dollars spent to defend Mr. Assad?  Is that what we're supposed to think?

I hope those Yahoo results will be helpful to the Russian and Iranian governments for planning their response to this page.
